Textbook and Course Material Program

The S&T Store automatically provides all students with their required course materials through the Miner Book Bundle. Beginning July 27, students will receive emails with instructions on completing their course materials selection for the fall 2025 semester. The cost of the program will automatically be added to their semester bill.

Missouri S&T has adopted the Miner Book Bundle, a bundled course materials model to make education costs more predictable, transparent and student-friendly. Instead of selecting and purchasing individual textbooks for each class, full-time students pay a flat rate of $360 per term, part-time students pay $168 per term, and graduate students pay $24 per credit hour for all required materials. This approach aligns with the flat tuition structure, where costs are clear up front, allowing for confident planning and avoiding unexpected expenses.

The bundle saves time and simplifies the process, while also ensuring all course materials are ready on the first day of class, supporting academic success from the start. Although the vast majority of students benefit from the convenience and affordability of this model, an opt-out option is available for those who prefer to purchase materials independently.

The program’s goal is to provide a transparent, affordable, and accessible path to academic success while aligning course material costs with the same principles that guide the tuition model.

Full details for students (including FAQs) can be found below.

If desired, students may choose to opt out of the Miner Book Bundle by 11:59 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 7.

Frequently Asked Questions

Miner Book Bundle

Miner Book Bundle is a course material delivery model that simplifies the student experience, lowers the cost of materials, and ensures students have access to all of their required course materials on or before the first day of class. Through this innovative program, physical books are conveniently packaged and provided to students on a rental basis, and access to digital material is directly within Canvas. The Miner Book Bundle is offered at a fixed price for undergraduates of $360 per term for full-time students and $168 per term for part-time students. Graduate students will be charged $24 per credit hour enrolled. At the end of the term, students will receive email reminders to return rented physical course materials to the bookstore.

As part of this partnership, the Miner Book Bundle program was implemented to help meet these goals. According to the College Board, undergraduate students at four-year public institutions spend an average of $1,240 annually on books and supplies—or approximately $620 per semester. In contrast, the Miner Book Bundle costs $360 per semester for full-time students, $168 for part-time enrollment or $24 per credit hour for graduate students, offering substantial savings well below the national average. The program also ensures that all students have access to their required materials by the first day of class.

It’s important to note that science, engineering, and other technical textbooks are among the most expensive course materials in higher education, often including specialized content and digital components that contribute to higher costs. The Miner Book Bundle helps offset those costs by providing predictable pricing across disciplines.

While students always have the option to opt out of the program each semester, many find value in the convenience, predictability, and academic readiness it provides.

It had been over a decade since S&T last evaluated the market, and the goal was to partner with experienced bookstore leaders who could provide a service focused on quality, operational efficiency, student engagement and affordability. After a thorough review by a committee of students, staff and faculty, Barnes & Noble was selected as the new provider.
